You should also record the date that you install a new battery so that you can easily determine the battery’s age in the future. 

Clean the Boat Battery

A boat battery’s posts will corrode over time. This will cause reduced performance and may even damage the battery if left unresolved for too long. Clean your battery’s posts using a solution of baking soda and water. Allow the posts to fully dry, and then lightly some dielectric grease. 

Recharge the Battery Often

Boat batteries work best if they are kept well charged. Of course, a battery that is used more often will need more frequent recharges. Of course, a boat battery that goes unused for longer periods of time can also lose its charge. Check your owner’s manual for information on how often your boat’s battery needs to be recharged. 

Store the Boat Battery Correctly
