How to Clean Mildew Off Boat Seats
Before you break out your bleach and scrub brush from under the kitchen sink, take a look at our informative guide to safely remove mildew from your vinyl. If you’re in the market for a new boat or looking for a replacement part, feel free to stop by our location in Houston, Texas anytime!
Tools
Before you get started on cleaning your seats you’ll need to round up a few helpful tools! Most importantly, you’ll need a gentle cleanser (preferably made for boat seats) and a protectant for your vinyl. You’ll also want to grab a soft scrub brush, microfiber towels, soft sponges, and a magic eraser if your mildew issue is getting out of control.
Cleaning
To start, spray down your seats with the cleanser and allow it to sit for 5 to 10 minutes before grabbing your soft scrub brush. While you may be tempted to really scrub at your seats, doing so may damage the materials. Work carefully and, once most of the stains are removed, wipe the seats down with soft sponges and microfiber towels. If there is still mildew on your seats after this first cleaning, reapply the cleaner and after it’s had some time to sit once again, take your magic eraser and remove the last of the stains.
Afterward
Once all the stains are removed and the seats have been wiped down you’ll want to apply a vinyl protectant. This should help keep mildew from reappearing and keep your seats in better condition overall. Once the protectant has dried, you can recover your ship to keep it safe from dust and dirt. To avoid mildew in the future, try to wipe your seats down after every outing and treat them with a gentle cleanser once a month.
