Bilge

Cleaning your bilge can require a bit of wait time, so we suggest doing this task first and completing the others as you wait. To begin grab your bilge cleaner and coat the surface area from top to bottom. If you’d like you can add a bit of water to make sure the cleaning agents get into every nook and cranny.

The bottle of cleaner should tell you how long you’ll need to let the solution sit, but be assured it will be at least a couple of hours. The longer the cleaning agents have time to work, the better off your bilge will be. Afterward, scrub the bilge till all the stains and grime are gone, give it a quick rinse, and drain it.

Deck

A deck can get dirty pretty quickly, so it’s important to clean it regularly. You’ll want to start by spraying it down with a hose in order to loosen dirt and grime that may be stuck on the surface. If you have a power washer this job will be even easier.

After you’ve rinsed away some of the dirt you’ll want to bring out your boat soap and a scrub brush. Scrub the soap into the deck with the brush and be sure to keep an eye out for dried stains and substances. Rinse the deck once again when you’re done. If you have a squeegee available you can use it to push the excess water off the deck. If not you can let your ship air dry, just be sure not to cover it till all the water is dried.

Seats

Generally, boat seats are made of durable vinyl that helps protect them against the elements. However, this doesn’t mean they don’t need regular cleaning! If your seats are in pretty good condition you can act preemptively by washing them with some warm soapy water or marine vinyl cleaner. You’ll want a soft scrub brush and some soft towels to dry the material afterward. If your seats have developed mildew you’ll need to purchase a mold-removing cleaner, vinyl protectant, and a magic eraser for extremely difficult stains.
