Lake Houston

If you have fished anywhere in Houston, you have probably fished at Lake Houston. This is the most popular fishing destination in the city, and for good reason! For one thing, Lake Houston is enormous – with a surface area of almost 12,000 acres, you have plenty of room to explore. The lake is also teeming with healthy numbers of largemouth bass, catfish, and bluegill.

Tom Bass Park

This regional park northwest of Pearland is divided into three sections, each with its own well-stocked fishing pond. Largemouth bass, rainbow trout, and catfish are always in good supply at Tom Bass Park. The park itself is packed with amenities, like tennis and volleyball courts, so this is a great place to bring the whole family.

Buffalo Run Park

This beautiful nature park is located just southeast of Houston, in Missouri City – only a short drive from the city center. Here you will find four lakes filled to the brim with bass, catfish, and carp. The grounds also feature a fish cleaning station, a playground for the kids, and three covered pavilions with barbecue grills.

Lake Conroe

Though not in Houston proper, Lake Conroe is well worth the 40-mile drive north from the city. This lake is known throughout Texas for its legendary fishing. Some of the largest bass and catfish ever recorded in the state of Texas were caught in Lake Conroe! The area is packed with luxury resorts and fine restaurants, so this is a great place to spend the weekend.

Pine Gully Park

Interested in saltwater fishing? Head over to Pine Gully Park, located just 30 minutes from Houston on the shores of Galveston Bay. From here, you can take advantage of all that Galveston Bay has to offer – like speckled trout, redfish, flounder, mackerel, and sheepshead.
