Origins

Yamaha first expanded into the outboard motor industry in 1960. With their years of experience with other machines and vehicles, they quickly set to work building powerful and efficient engines. The first outboard motor they released to the market was sold in 1962, and it marked the start of a decades-long journey to explore and innovate the outboard engine.

Development

In their early years, Yamaha focused on building outboard motors for larger, sturdier ships, so their early products had high vibration rates and made an awful lot of noise. After hearing customer feedback, they went back to the drawing boat and started producing smaller, more efficient, and less noisy engines. With their existing brand and their stellar work improving on their products, Yamaha quickly became the go-to brand in the outboard motor market.
