How to Bring Your Boat Out of Winter Storage
With winter coming to a close, it's about time to bring your boat out of storage and start prepping for spring. However, that doesn’t mean you can just remove the cover and dive back into open waters. Your boat will need a little extra care and maintenance before it’s ready for sailing, and we advise reading through our article below to make sure it's ready for the upcoming spring.
Complete an Inspection
To start, you’ll want to gauge the overall condition of your boat after it’s been sitting in storage for the last few months. Be sure to thoroughly examine both the interior and exterior of your model to see if there are any unexpected damages you need to take care of. Keep a close eye out for any signs of pests, rust, or mildew, as you’ll want to start treating the problem as soon as possible.
Engine Care
Once you’ve got the body of your boat thoroughly inspected, you’ll want to start examining your model’s various parts and equipment. Be sure to check your various tanks and hoses for signs of leaks, cracking, and condensation—as this is often a sign the fluids inside need to be replaced. Afterward, you’ll want to check that all of your belts are taut and fully functional and that your battery still has plenty of charge.
Clean Your Boat
Once you’ve got all of your engine maintenance out of the way, you’ll want to grab a sponge and some boat soap to give your hull a good scrub. Once it’s good and clean, we advise applying some polish and wax to help protect your hull from corrosion or a damaged finish. Once you’ve got the exterior clean, we advise sweeping the deck, washing the windows, and taking a quick walk through the cabin with a duster.
