History
The first Skeeter® boat was built by Holmes Thurmond in 1948, just after World War II concluded. Based in Shreveport, Louisiana, Skeeter quickly became the South’s leading boat manufacturer. The company name was derived from the fact that the long, needle-like bows looked like a mosquito’s (or “skeeter’s) proboscis.
Skeeter was one of the first boat manufacturers to use fiberglass in their boat construction, allowing for larger and more complex hulls. They moved to a larger plant in Longview, Texas, in 1961 and started building tri-hull boats there.
After a few decades more of success, they moved again to Kilgore, Texas, where they’re headquartered to this day. The 1990s saw them introduce more types of boats to their lineup, including 20’ bass boats and boats designed for saltwater. Today, they continue to stay ahead of the curve in design, technology, and quality.
Superior Engineering
Every Skeeter® vessel is carefully designed and constructed to maximize performance and give you all the best innovations. Some of the modern hulls are perfect both for rough water handling and cruising around the local fishing hole. The React Keel that many are equipped with helps prevent drifting away from your line as you fish, too!
Enhanced Performance
Thanks to that engineering, every Skeeter® boat you see will outperform your expectations. The Torque Transfer system, for instance, takes into account how heavier outboards apply too much additional weight to the stern. Rather than add more fiberglass to count that weight, just built hulls that distributed it throughout the craft, negating the drag it produced. This and many more genius design aspects ensure that your Skeeter boat will live up to its name.
Other Features
For the anglers out there, you don’t just need a boat that performs well. You need storage. Luckily, Skeeter® boats have a variety of storage solutions. These range from deep storage compartments beneath the deck to keep bulky items out of your way, to center rod lockers to keep your gear all in one place. There are also boarding ladders and ski poles to enhance your water sports experiences!
